Our Volunteer Army

The Providence Auxiliary of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and the Alta Bates Summit Associates are fund-raising phenomenons. “Over the years, these volunteer groups have donated millions to support the hospital,” says C. Darrell Sooy, Foundation Chair. “They’re part of Alta Bates Summit’s rich heritage of community service.”

The Auxiliary runs Summit’s two gift shops and traces its roots to Providence Hospital’s founding in the early 1900s. Among the group’s recent donations and pledges are $250,000 for the Comprehensive Breast Center, a new cardiac catheterization lab, and redesign of the Emergency Department, plus $100,000 for the robotics surgical system.

Since the Associates opened the Alta Bates Showcase in 1975, revenues have grown to more than $180,000 annually. They’ve donated more than $3 million to hospital projects, including Tele-Care, Whiting Nuclear Medicine Center, and the Disabled Community Health Clinic.
