Center of Attention

Philanthropy funded renovations under way at Alta Bates Summit.

This spring, when the Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center opens its doors at the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, the $12.5 million project will be the culmination of the biggest single-project fundraising endeavor ever undertaken by the Alta Bates Summit Foundation.

“The original vision was great but relatively modest compared to the vision of today,” says Michael DiGiacomo, board chair of the Foundation. This vision grew as donations rolled in and has come to include seven digital mammography machines, state-of-the-art equipment, and a navigator program, all designed to serve our diverse community. “To have all these programs and services under one roof makes the Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center the premier center of its kind in the region,” says DiGiacomo.

Along with $9.5 million raised by volunteer groups, early support from Peter Read and his family have made the Breast Health Center a reality.

A dedication for the Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center will be held on April 15.
