Albo Appointed Centennial Campaign Leader

Great news: Robert J. Albo, M.D., renowned surgeon and former member of the Foundation Board of Trustees, has been named Honorary Co-Chair of the Centennial Campaign for Excellence.

A member of the Medical Staff for the past 40 years, Dr. Albo is revered by thousands of patients who have benefited from his compassion and expertise. He served as Chief of Surgery at Peralta Hospital, one of the five heritage hospitals that now comprise Alta Bates Summit. Currently he is Chief of the Department of Surgery at the University of California Berkeley Student Health Service and Clinical Professor of Surgery at UC San Francisco.

Dr. Albo grew up in Berkeley and attended UC Berkeley, where he was captain of the basketball and baseball teams. His love of sports later inspired him to serve as team doctor for the Golden State Warriors and the Oakland Raiders. He is also an international authority on magic, having authored 10 volumes, the largest series of books ever published on the subject.

In his new Centennial Campaign post, Dr. Albo welcomes the opportunity to lend vital support to Alta Bates Summit. “More than ever, the Medical Center is needed in our community,” he says. “And I am happy to provide leadership to this important community asset.”
