Stars and stargazers alike will reconvene in Berkeley for the 14th annual Alta Bates Summit Celebrity Golf and Tennis Classic—a benefit for Thunder Road, the Medical Center’s renowned substance abuse recovery program for teens.
On September 24, headliners Todd Martin and Mal Washington will participate, along with 30 celebrities, in the Tennis Classic. Martin holds eight singles titles, and was a finalist in the 1990s at the U.S. Open, the Australian Open, and the Grand Slam Cup. In 1996, Washington, a four-time winner of pro tour tourneys, was the first African American to reach a Wimbledon final after Arthur Ashe’s stirring victory there 21 years before.
Join the anticipated capacity crowd of 1,200-plus at the Berkeley Tennis Club, followed by a black tie–optional gala at the Claremont Resort. The golf tourney, scheduled September 12 at the Diablo Country Club, is a perennial sellout and features a round of golf, lunch, and a buffet dinner. For more information or tickets to the tennis tournament and/or gala, visit www.absfdn.org, or call (510) 204-1667.
